Biological drugs are distinct from traditional pharmaceutical products, which are derived from chemical precursors or other non-biological sources. In some sectors, these strategies have been used for more than a decade. For example, interferon alpha and epoetin alpha molecules were adapted for longer half-lives during the past 10 years.
