Phototherapy Equipment Market Set To Grow To Over $810m By 2027
13 August 2018
Visiongain has launched a new pharma report Global Phototherapy Equipment Market 2017-2027:Forecasts by Equipment Type (Conventional, LED-Based, Fibre-Optic), Application (Skin Disease, Neonatal Jaundice), End-User (Hospitals & Clinics, Home Use) and Geography
Phototherapy (light treatment) is the process of using light to eliminate bilirubin in the blood. These light waves are absorbed by the patient's skin and blood and change bilirubin into products which can pass through their system. Phototherapy treatment in the hospital has been traditionally been provided by a row of lights or a spotlight suspended at a distance from a baby. This would provide light shining directly on an undressed baby (with diaper on) whose eyes would need protection from the light with soft eye patches applied.
Today, advancements in technology have led to a new phototherapy system which gives effective treatment without the inconveniences of conventional phototherapy treatment. Treating psoriasis with a UVB light unit at home is an economical and convenient choice for many people. Like phototherapy in a clinic, it requires a consistent treatment schedule. Individuals are treated initially at a medical facility and then begin using a light unit at home.
The lead Visiongain report analyst for this report commented “Phototherapy is one of the most effective therapies which is carried out with the help of a special kind of light. Narrowband ultraviolet B (UVB) is the most common type of phototherapy used to treat eczema. Broadband UVB, PUVA (Psoralen and UVA) and UVA1 are other forms of phototherapy used in treating eczema.
The growth of the phototherapy market is majorly driven by rise in incidence of diseases such as neonatal jaundice, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, acne vulgaris, cancer, wound healing and other skin diseases. The majority of these diseases are seen in new born children. However, the high cost of investment for research and development and high cost for relatively new classes of treatment for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis makes the entry of new players difficult.”
The phototherapy equipment market is highly competitive with many different players entering the market. However, GE Healthcare, Philips Lighting Holding B.V. and Natus Medical Incorporated are the top competitors in the world phototherapy equipment market.
