Medical Lasers Market Set To Grow To Over $5bn By 2027
10 August 2018
Visiongain has launched a new pharma report Medical Laser Systems Market Forecast 2017-2027: Analysis of Medical Lasers for Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Dental, Gynaecology, Urology and Cardiology; Forecasts for Diode Lasers, Solid-State Lasers, Gas Lasers, Dye Lasers and Major National Markets with an Assessment of Leading Companies
Several biological effects can be produced by the action of a laser beam on a biological tissue. There are four main effects caused by the transfer of energy from the laser to the tissue: thermal effect, photoablative effect, electromechanical effect and photochemical effect. The effects are affected by the absorption properties of the chromophores in human tissues.
Surgical use was the first application of lasers in medicine. For example, CO2 lasers (10,600nm) work by heat generated following absorption of photons. Tissue coagulates at 60 degrees and carbonises above 200 degrees with a sharp transition from affected to non-affected regions of the tissue due to localised absorption.
The absorption of proteins increases when shorter wavelengths are used. This leads to shallow penetration depths. Short-pulse lasers can result in energy deposition in a very shallow region, followed by explosive expansion of the generated plasma. Cell layers can be removed in precision surgery such as those in corneal reshaping. Other short wavelength lasers such as excimer lasers with fibre tips have the potential to be used for laser ablation of atherosclerotic plaques in the coronary arteries.
The lead Visiongain report analyst for this report commented; “Medical laser systems provide novel solutions for medical treatments. In the past decade, lasers in ophthalmology have had great success. The growing ageing population in developed markets and the increasing prevalence of ocular diseases has contributed to the success of this market. Recently, there has been a surge in the demand for medical lasers for use in dermatology and gynaecology. This has been driven by the improved safety of devices and the transition from using lasers in the traditional medical setting to the ease of use at home. Visiongain believes that there is great opportunity for growth within the medical laser systems market over the next ten years. However, Visiongain notes that the recent economic slowdown in BRIC markets coupled with continuing economic difficulty in European countries and the uncertainty brought about by UK’s decision to leave the EU may influence investments made over the decade.”
The Medical Lasers market is highly competitive with many different players entering the market. The report discusses selected leading companies in the market. These companies include American Medical Systems, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Coherent, Cynosure, ForTec Medical, Lumenis, Syneron Candela and Topcon.
