16 August 2018
Automotive

Visiongain’s unique new report the Top 20 Automotive Composite Companies 2018: Market Share % of Leading Automotive OEMs & Composites Specialists Developing Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics (CFRP), Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastics (GFRP), Aramid Fibre Reinforced Plastics (AFRP), PMC, CMC & MMC for Durability, Performance & Vehicle Weight Reduction to Improve Fuel Efficiency & Meet Emissions Targets reveals the market share, revenues and ranking of the Top 20 companies in the automotive composites industry.

The Visiongain analyst noted: "The use and presence of composites in the automotive sector is substantially higher than previously. Car manufacturers are starting to use composite materials for the production of urban and middle-range cars even more. The first attempt at using composites into lower-end vehicles was on BMW’s i3. BMW i3 is an electric car which means that the use of carbon fibre makes more economic sense because lithium-ion batteries are expensive. Less weight means a smaller battery pack, a worthwhile trade-off. Furthermore, the incorporation of carbon fibre into more lower-end vehicles, such as BMW’s electric i3, has brought economies of scale to the production of carbon fibre and its usage in high-volume segments."

Currently, steel and iron constitute around 70% of the materials used in a medium-end vehicle by weight, whereas aluminium accounts for around 10%. Plastics, including carbon fibre and other composites, amount to 9%. The remaining 11% is attributed to other materials.

The automotive industry has shifted its focus to light-weight materials. Indeed, composites such as carbon fibre are sought as a substitute for steel and aluminium creating opportunities for light-weighting which could further enable higher fuel efficiency and help in meeting increasingly stringent emission targets set by governments.

Visiongain’s report provides the market share, ranking and strategy details of the top 20 companies in the automotive composites market, including both automotive OEMs and composite specialists.

In addition, the report contains an analysis of the opportunities within the overall automotive composites market.

The Top 20 Automotive Composite Companies 2018 report will be of value to anyone who wants to better understand the automotive composites market and its competitive landscape. It will be useful for businesses who wish to better comprehend the part of the market they are already involved in, or those wishing to enter or expand into a different regional or technical part of the automotive composites industry.
