“Crude Oil Desalter Market spending will reach $2.87 billion by 2020”, says Visiongain

27 September 2019
Defence

This latest report by business intelligence provider Visiongain assesses that Crude Oil Desalter Market spending will reach $2.87 billion by 2020 and grow from 2020 to 2030 at a CAGR of 8.9 percent. Desalting is a water-washing operation initially carried out in the field of production and subsequently at the refinery site for additional crude oil cleaning, where the specifications for salt and water content are even more rigid due to their negative effect in downstream processes due to the formation of scales, corrosion and deactivation of catalysts. Desalting involves mixing heated crude oil with washing water, using a mixing valve or static mixers to ensure a proper contact between the crude oil and the water, and then passing it to a separating vessel, where a proper separation between the aqueous and organic phases is achieved.

No matter whether they come from inorganic salts or organic compounds, even very low chlorine concentrations in crude oil are detrimental. Obviously, it is beneficial for any refinery to quickly and reliably determine the chlorine concentration in crude oil and related matrices. Wet-chemical methods have traditionally been used, but they take time and are sensitive to mistakes. On the other hand, X-ray fluorescence chlorine analysis (XRF) is simple and straightforward and does not involve tedious preparation of samples such as dilution. XRF can accurately quantify residual concentrations of chlorine.

However, the determination of small chlorine levels is difficult by sulfur current in crude oil at mass percent levels. In the periodic table of the elements, sulfur and chlorine are neighbors and have very similar conditions of excitation. As a result, low concentration chlorine peaks tend to disappear among the much higher peaks of sulfur. This makes it a challenging task for any XRF to determine trace levels (mg / kg) of chlorine in the presence of high sulfur levels (mass percent).

Crude Oil Desalting Is The Initial Process In The Upstream Operations

Crude oil desalination technology is used to remove residual salts from crude oil in a refinery without corroding and fouling heaters, exchangers and other equipment. The desalter's type and size specification depends on a few basic parameters such as temperature, pressure, fluid viscosity, and flow rate, as well as customer specifications for permissible salt in the final product. Crude oil dehydration is usually performed at the stage of production to remove excess water from crude oil. The most efficient and appropriate electrostatic dehydrators of the mixed AC-DC setup for all grades of crude oil.

Increasing investment for upgradation and expansion of refineries will positively encourage the crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator market size

Increasing investment to upgrade and expand refineries primarily in China and India will encourage the market size of crude oil desalterers and electrostatic dehydrators. The Joint Commission for China-Venezuela is planning to expand the refinery in Puerto La Cruz. This alliance will increase the refinery's capacity from 129,000 barrels of oil per day to 210,000 barrels. The falling rates of crude oil due to greater profit margins for refinery will further boost the magnitude of the sector.

Increasing demand for desalter and dehydrator equipment

Increasing demand for desalter and dehydrator equipment to reduce the content of salt and water across the upstream and downstream sectors will stimulate market share of crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator. Calcium chloride, sodium chloride and magnesium chlorides are the most common salts found in crude oil. Salt in the crude oil poisons the catalysts for handling and promotes corrosion.
Increasing demand for fluid catalytic cracker unit will increase demand for crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator

Increasing requirement for a fluid catalytic cracker device to break larger molecules into heavier ones and turn them into more useful products will further boost market share of crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator. Due to its increasing petrochemical capacity, Reliance imported about 60,000 to 90,000 tons of heavy full-range naphtha to meet the demand and supply gap. In the forecast time frame, volatile crude oil prices can hamper the market share of crude oil desalterers and electrostatic dehydrators

Double Stage Crude Oil Desalter Witnessed The Highest Growth Owing To Rising Acceptance Of Heavy Crude Oil In Refineries

Crude oil desalter and the industry for electrostatic dehydrators can be widely segmented into crude oil desalterers and electrostatic dehydrators. In the downstream sector, crude oil desalter finds wide application. Single, double and triple stage crude oil desalter can be segmented. Due to the increasing acceptance of heavy crude oil in refineries, the double-stage crude oil desalter experienced the highest growth in 2019. Triple-stage crude oil desalter is expected to witness growth subject to its ability to deliver 98 percent salt removal efficiency.

Alternating current (AC) is anticipated to witness growth due to its reliability and operational simplicity

Electrostatic dehydrator market based on type can be segmented into electrostatic dehydrator AC, DC, and AC-DC. In downstream activities, including FPSOs, electrostatic dehydrators are primarily used. Alternating current (AC) is expected to witness growth due to its reliability and operational simplicity characteristics unlike DC / AC+DC that tend to arch and complexity of electricity. It is expected that DC electrostatic dehydrator will increase due to its ability to dehydrate refined petroleum products with less water content and light crude oil.

Reducing demand for refined petroleum products hampers growth of crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator market

Reducing demand for refined petroleum products including diesel and gasoline will hamper the 2016-2024 market share of Europe's crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator. Government action to promote the implementation of solar power techniques will adversely affect the development of the national sector. Europe has introduced Directive 2009/28/EC with a view to meeting the target for renewable energy by 27% by 2030, which is expected to further hamper the industry outlook.

Key players in the global crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator market are Cameron International, Agar, Canadian Petroleum Processing Equipment, Custom Process Equipment, Croda International, EN-FAB, Fjords Processing AS, Engineering Technology & Innovation, Forum Energy Technologies, GasTech Engineering, Frames Group, Komax Systems., Petro Techna International, Mackenzie Hydrocarbons, Prosernat S.A., VME Process, and Process Group.

Introduction: Oil Desalting Systems Market

Recovered oil from reservoirs includes several impurities such as water drilling, salts & sand and polymers. Desalting systems that are also known as oil desalting systems are used to remove these impurities from crude oil. Oil desalination systems are used to remove salts from oil for processing in a refinery.  If oil is not treated with desalination systems, the impurities, salt and water in oil will cause problems in both operations and maintenance, including abrasion, equipment fouling, corrosion and catalyst poisoning in the processing division. Oil desalination systems are very effective ways of reducing water and salt content from oil. Various parts such as electrodes, tier monitoring unit, process rates, mud dry are integrated in the scheme. Usually the primary process in upstream operations is the oil desalination systems. Based on the specifications, oil desalination systems depend on a few basic parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow rate and fluid viscosity.

The global oil desalting systems plays a vital role for the oil & gas sector

Global oil desalination technologies play a crucial part for the oil & petrol industry and it is anticipated that increased development in refineries will achieve momentum in the close future between the prediction era. There are several drivers that can lift up the market for oil desalination systems in the near future, such as the emergence of petroleum refineries in several regions, and market growth is expected to be boosted by in-house production units. It is also expected that the increasing importance of fluid catalytic units will have a positive impact on the growth of the market for oil desalination systems. However, declining imports of crude oil from European region is expected to create challenge for oil desalting systems market in the near future.

Heavy Crude Desalting Systems Segment Is Estimated To Dominate The Market
