Aviation safety regulators, as well as OEMs, state that airframes, engines and components are required to undergo scheduled maintenance that includes detailed inspection, maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair and replacement of parts, which require aircraft to be removed from service for a pre-determined period of time. Aircraft can also be removed from service in the event of an unscheduled maintenance event if a component has experienced a failure that jeopardises the safe operation and well-being of passengers and crew.
